Not a hallway unit, and not a shipping container
Most self storage means a shared building: an access corridor, a goods lift, a trolley, and somebody else’s boxes on the other side of a partition wall. The other option people are usually offered is a second-hand shipping container dropped at their own address, which leaves them responsible for where it sits and who can reach it.

What fits in one
Twenty feet is the number that matters
Floor area barely separates a vault from an indoor unit — 160 square feet against 150 for a 10×15. Length is what separates them, and so is the door you load through.
The other half of it is where the unit sits. Because the vault is on the yard at ground level, the tailgate stops about a metre from the doors — so loading is measured in minutes rather than in trips down a corridor with a trolley. The trade is that vaults are outdoors and not climate controlled. Documents, electronics and upholstery are better off in a chain’s indoor unit, and we would rather say so than take the booking. Tools, materials, stock, equipment and fixtures — things that live in a truck bed all week anyway — are exactly what these were built for.

Before you rent one
How big is an 8×20 vault, really?
160 square feet — eight feet by twenty — and all of it at ground level. On floor area alone that is only marginally more than a chain’s 10×15, which is 150. The difference that matters is the shape: twenty feet in a straight line takes 16-foot material a 15-foot unit cannot hold at all, and because you load from a vehicle through doors the full width of the unit, none of it has to be angled around a corner.
How much does it cost?
From $88 a month, month to month, with no contract. Vaults are monthly only, so there is no daily or weekly rate. Individual units vary a little, and the booking system shows the rate for each one that is available.
Is this a shipping container?
No, and the difference is worth a sentence. These are purpose-built steel storage units with double swing doors that open the full width — not second-hand cargo containers with the tall lever-lock doors. They also stay here, on a gated and lit yard, rather than being delivered to your address and becoming your problem to secure.
Will my things stay dry?
The vaults are steel walls, steel floor and steel roof with sealed doors, built for Gulf Coast rain and the humidity behind it. They are not climate controlled, though. If you are storing documents, electronics or upholstery, an indoor climate-controlled unit is genuinely the better product and we would rather say so than take the booking.
Can I get in at the weekend or at night?
Yes — 24/7 through the app on your own access credential, seven days a week, the same gate the trucks use. There is no office hour to work around. That is rarer than it sounds: only 36.7% of facilities in a 2026 survey of 10,431 storage sites confirmed 24-hour access, and most close at 10pm.
Can I rent a vault and a parking space together?
