When the 10×15 wins
Being fair to the indoor unit
Climate control matters for electronics, paper and finishes — a vault is sealed and shaded, not air-conditioned. If your stock is temperature-sensitive, indoor wins. If your stock is tools, materials, equipment and inventory that lives in a truck half the week anyway, the vault is the working answer. The steel question
Why does rodent-resistant steel matter here?
This is the part of the comparison that only shows up months later. A vault is a sealed all-steel box: welded panels, steel floor, double swing doors that close against a lip. An indoor unit is drywall and framing with a roll-up door — and it shares those walls with whoever rents next door.
- No shared walls means no shared problemsIn a corridor of units, one tenant storing feed or fabric invites pests that travel the walls into every neighboring unit. A freestanding steel vault has no route in and nothing to chew through.
- Sealed against a Gulf Coast summerThe vault closes against rain and humidity-driven condensation cycles. Not climate control — documents and electronics still belong indoors — but tools, material and equipment stay dry and rust comes from what you bring in wet, not from the box.
- The failure mode differenceWhen an indoor facility has a pest or water problem, it is a building-wide event managed on the operator’s schedule. A vault’s risks are yours to control, and they end at your own door.
