A tire shop inside the gate

Josh's Tire Shop operates on the LockRig property, inside the same gate the trucks use. No other yard on this stretch of I-10 offers tire service on site. Here is what that changes in practice — and, honestly, what it does not.

The 5 a.m. flat

Where you find the flat decides what it costs

Most tire failures are not blowouts at speed. They are the slow leak you find in the morning walk-around — which means the deciding factor is where the truck happens to be parked when you find it.

  • Found on a ramp or a streetYou are calling a road service truck to wherever you are, waiting for it in the cab, and paying call-out economics — the tire billed at a multiple of shop price, plus the hours. The 2.2 million ramp-parking events a year all carry this exposure.
  • Found at a yard without serviceSafer, but the tire still is not fixed. Either the service truck comes to you or you limp to a shop and join their queue behind whoever arrived first.
  • Found hereThe shop is on the same property. You are not arranging a rendezvous or driving on a compromised tire — the truck is already where the tire work happens.

Being straight about it

What this is, and what it is not

Josh's Tire Shop is an independent business that operates on the property. It is not run by LockRig, we do not set their prices or their hours, and parking here does not queue-jump their workload.

  • It is proximityThe distance between "truck with a bad tire" and "tire shop" is a drive aisle, not a tow, a road call, or twenty miles of corridor.
  • It is planningSteer tires wearing thin? The shop sees your truck every day it is parked. Getting ahead of a failure is a conversation on the way to the gate, not a scheduled detour.
  • It is not a guaranteeA shop has hours and a queue like any business. What you are buying is the best possible starting position, not a service-level agreement.

The full downtime arithmetic — what a tire failure actually costs an owner-operator in hours — is in its own post.

Why it matters here

The corridor west of Katy thins out fast

Past Katy the service density drops away. The exit-by-exit corridor guide maps what is actually available between Katy and Sealy — the short version is that if you pass the right stop at the wrong time, you are committed to the next one. A tire problem in that gap is a long wait on a shoulder.

Parking where the tire service already is removes one of the two ways that gap can hurt you. The other one — cargo theft — is covered in the theft guide, and the fixes overlap: gate, light, people.
